Rumors of the sequel to F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin were leaked via NeoGAF forums due to a "Next Issue" image of the March issue of Spanish video game magazine Marca Player. The image depicts Alma and her baby, along with two other characters. However, no confirmation was given by Warner Bros. at that time.

The new sequel, titled F.E.A.R. 3, was officially announced on April 8, 2010, along with its trailer. The game will be developed by Day 1 Studios, in collaboration with Monolith. According to the announcement, the gameplay will feature a "Generative Scare System" to change the placement and timing of enemies "on each playthrough".Production

The story will follow Alma Wade and her baby's birth. The "Point Man" will make a return from the first game (this time without his balaclava as seen on the trailer), as well as Paxton Fettel, even giving hints of a co-op mode involving the two, each with their own unique powers. The game will also feature a script co-written by Steve Niles and in-game cinematics directed by filmmaker John Carpenter.
The game was set to release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in October 2010. However, after August, 17 2010 it was announced that the game would not be released until April 2011 for unknown reasons.
The release of the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC game was pushed from March to May 2011 earlier this week, shortly before a collector's edition - featuring a pregnant Alma figurine.
On the 27th of April 2011, Warner Bros. announced, yet, another delay to the title, pushing it back to June 21st in North America and June 24th in the UK.
On June 17 the game was available for pre-order in Steam and then finally released on June 21st in all consoles.

Gameplay

F.E.A.R. 3 is to include new features such as co-op, an evolved cover system, and more scares, according to Day 1 Studios founder and president Denny Thorley. In the game, the player will be able to control both the Point Man and Paxton Fettel, the protagonist and antagonist from the first game, F.E.A.R. First Encounter Assault Recon. The controls for the Point Man are the same, with shooting enemies and slowing time. As Fettel, the player will assist the Point Man by using telekinesis, stun, possession, and other abilities.

Multiplayer

It has been announced that F.E.A.R 3 will have multiplayer game modes in it. The first mode is called F**cking Run, Alma's wall of death will chase the players FEAR squad, forcing the team to reach various checkpoints. If one of the team members die, it's game over. The second gamemode puts the player as a FEAR squad holding off Alma's minions. The team must work together to build barricades and collect various weapons to fight off the 20 waves of enemies. The longer the team survives, the more the fog circles the team, making it hard to see enemies. Expect harder enemies to come out of the ever intensifying fog, such as Alma herself. The third game mode is called Soul Survivor. As another member of a FEAR Squad, the team has to fight off waves of enemies. Alma will corrupt one of your teammates, or yourself. If you are the corrupted, you will be tasked with breaking members of the squad off in the hopes of corrupting them. The last FEAR Squad member alive is the Soul Survivor. The fourth game mode is called the Soul King. All of the players start off as a spectre. Players fight to possess or kill as many A.I humans possible. If the player dies you lose half of your "Souls" that are collected from fallen spectres or humans. The player with the most souls at the end of the round is crowned the Soul King.

Plot

Nine months after the events of both games, the Point Man was captured by Armacham Security and interrogated in an asylum. Paxton Fettel interrupts the interrogation and helps free the Point Man. The two form an uneasy alliance and escape the Asylum through the slums.
Commandeering a helicopter, the Point Man and Fettel return to Fairport to regroup with F.E.A.R. operative Jin Sun-Kwon. During their return, the civilian population that survived were either driven insane by the paranormal activity or were executed by Armachan personnel. Fighting their way through, the brothers successfully meet up with Jin. Jin plays back recorded video footage of Michael Becket, who revealed his rape and is slated by Armacham for transport.
Using an automated transport, the Point Man and Fettel assault the local airport to intercept Becket, killing the remnants of the Armacham personnel. In order to gain more intel from Becket, Fettel possesses him and reveals Becket's past life to the Point Man while Becket realizes the Point Man's identity. Fettel's release of Becket proves fatal, causing a gory explosion. The Point Man and Fettel head to an old training facility by Harlan Wade years ago to study and develop the prototypes, where the two start to destroy items associated with memories of their childhood past tonding occurs depending on whether the player has controlled the Point Man or Fettel. Alternatively, if played during co-op, the player with the higher score determines the ending. The good ending will show Point Man overpowering Fettel and vice-versa, with the ending depending on whether Point Man or Fettel had survived their final struggle.
inflict damage on the lingering echo of Harlan Wade known as The Creep. Shortly after destroying a monstrous apparition of Wade, one of two endings are possible, depending on multiple factors. For single-player, a good and evil ending:
The Point Man ending has him shooting Paxton in the head three times and watching his body spontaneously burn itself up. Then, as he walks over to Alma, ready to finish the job, he notices that her baby has been successfully born. Even as her body disappears, with Alma presumably still existing, Point Man receives a transmission from Jin that everything is finally over. With the baby in the crook of his left arm, he leaves the room.

The Paxton Fettel ending has Paxton possessing Point Man's body and somehow extracting the baby from Alma's swollen body. He promises to raise the child like it was his own, but sets it aside as he notices Alma. Fettel then pounces on his mother, and begins to violently eat her.

Trailers

The newly released trailer for the game shows live-action footage in addition to snatches of in-game footage. It is narrated by Paxton Fettel, and shows Alma Wade as a fully grown (clothed) woman giving birth to Michael Becket's - the protagonist of F.E.A.R. 2 - child in a hospital room, with doctors frantically moving about. The baby is shown clawing out of her stomach. Also seen is the Point Man, with his face shown for the first time, as a man with long, matted hair killing soldiers with an assault rifle and Paxton Fettel himself, as a man with a bullet in his forehead, emanating a red aura.
A second trailer has emerged, focusing on the Point Man's combat prowess. The trailer shows the Point Man using his superhuman reflexes to dodge bullets while he fights an enemy squad. The trailer is again narrated by Paxton Fettel, who appears at the end of the trailer to join his brother in the fight, telekinetically throwing a gasoline barrel at a group of soldiers while the Point Man shoots and detonates it, killing the soldiers. This further demonstrates the co-op possibilities in the game.
The third trailer announces that Paxton Fettel has the ability to posess an enemy soldier to aid Point Man in combat, and after the host is dead, he can continue on possessing more people. He can also use his telekenetic powers to lift people in mid-air and hold them for a while.
A fourth trailer for the E3 2010 convention was released. Paxton Fettel narrates that his mother, Alma, had showed him the worst that life has to offer, and that he wants more. Unlike the previous trailers, the E3 2010 trailer consists entirely of gameplay footage, showing off combat against ATC soldiers for both the Point Man and Fettel.
The fifth trailer announced was the cinematic trailer, showing where the Point Man and Fettel came from, and how they end up becoming separated and fighting each other.

The Almaverse

The Almaverse

In the trailer, Alma is shown giving birth to the 3rd Prototype, attended to by many doctors at Fairport Hospital, and as expected from these dark new times, the sight is less than pleasant. Meanwhile, the Point Man is fighting his way to the hospital, but the moment he arrives, he is confronted by his brother Fettel, who had already arrived. Flashing back to Alma, her telepathic ability slips out of control from the birth pangs, throwing the doctors across the room; at which point she looks at the camera with orange glazed eyes and Fettel can be heard proclaiming; "It's not every day that we get to meet a new member of the family.""Mother's expecting again. Brother is killing again. All I want for us is to be... together."

—Paxton Fettel in the announcement trailer.

Alma returns in F.E.A.R. 3 but this time her sons Point Man and Paxton Fettel introduce divergent co-op, giving players distinctly different abilities affecting their own play as well as the experience of their co-op partner. Gamers participate in single player or co-op modes as Point Man, a genetically enhanced super soldier originally introduced in F.E.A.R., or they can play cooperatively as his conniving brother Paxton Fettel, whose incredible telekinetic power has given him life beyond the grave.
